A clear signature for exam forms
Indian recruitment and exam forms reject unclear uploads by name, and their file-size bands are narrow enough that compressing until it fits destroys the strokes. The fix is an order of operations, not a stronger filter.

|---|---|---|---|
| Bank exam signature (IBPS format) | 140 × 60 | 10–20 KB | Punjab & Sind Bank recruitment notice (IBPS format), October 2024 (primary, checked 2026-10-18) |
| SSC signature (commonly cited) | 472 × 157 | 10–20 KB | SSC CGL signature rules (secondary summary) (secondary, checked 2026-10-18) |
| Bank exam photograph (IBPS format) | 200 × 230 | 20–50 KB | Punjab & Sind Bank recruitment notice (IBPS format), October 2024 (primary, checked 2026-10-18) |
| Left thumb impression (IBPS format) | 240 × 240 | 20–50 KB | Punjab & Sind Bank recruitment notice (IBPS format), October 2024 (primary, checked 2026-10-18) |
| Handwritten declaration (IBPS format) | 800 × 400 | 50–100 KB | Punjab & Sind Bank recruitment notice (IBPS format), October 2024 (primary, checked 2026-10-18) |
The bank figures are from an IBPS-format notice, the Punjab & Sind Bank recruitment notice of October 2024, which gives the pixels as preferred, asks for JPG or JPEG at 200 DPI or more, and warns that an unclear or smudged upload may be rejected. The SSC figure is from a secondary summary that also reports that blurred signatures are rejected; treat it as commonly cited, not as the commission's text.
Why blurred uploads are rejected
A signature is checked by eye against the one on the admit card and at the exam hall. Grey paper, a shadow from the hand and strokes softened by repeated compression make that comparison unreliable, so notices reject the file rather than guess. The usual cause is not the photograph but what happens after it: a 3 MB phone photo squeezed to 15 KB by a compressor that lowers quality until the size fits.
The order that keeps strokes crisp
| Step | Why it comes here |
|---|---|
| Crop to the ink and level it | Pixels spent on empty paper are pixels taken from the strokes |
| Paper to white | A grey, shadowed background is read as smudging |
| Ink darkened, strokes sharpened | At full resolution, where the stroke width is measurable |
| Resample to the exact pixels | Area averaging, so thin strokes do not break |
| Sharpen again for the small grid | Resampling softens; this restores the edge at the final size |
| Search the JPEG quality | The highest quality that fits the band — not the smallest file |
Under a band's minimum is the less obvious failure: a clean signature at 140 × 60 pixels can be under 10 KB even at the best quality. It cannot be made larger without either padding the file with meaningless bytes, which this site does not do, or enlarging it in the same shape where the notice gives its pixels as preferred.
Sharpen a signature for an online form runs exactly this order in your browser and prints the final pixels and kilobytes. No page can promise that a particular authority will accept a file; it can meet the stated numbers.
